Grizzly Walking Through Misty Yellowstone Meadow

A large brown bear walks left to right across a short, green meadow, head low and one front paw lifted mid-stride. Its dark, shaggy coat is paler across the shoulders and carries a lighter patch along the flank. The grass is scattered with weathered grey logs and bleached branches. Behind them a band of pale mist hangs above the ground, and a dark line of trees fades into the haze. The light is soft and cool, with muted greens and browns, and the mood is quiet and watchful.

The grizzly (Ursus arctos horribilis) is a North American subspecies of the brown bear. It is recognised by the muscular shoulder hump, which powers its digging, and by a dished facial profile. Grizzlies eat roots, grasses, insects and carrion, as well as larger prey, and in spring they often forage in open meadows. The caption places this bear in Yellowstone National Park, where it was observed in May 2024. The landscape format and the dark, even tones suit widescreen desktop monitors well. The empty grass at the bottom and the hazy sky at the top leave room for desktop icons.
