Image licensing

Every wallpaper on Wallspapers carries one of the licences below. The licence for each image is shown beside it, with a link to the full legal text and the original source.

CC0 and Public Domain

Images marked CC0 or Public domain have no copyright restrictions. You may use, modify and share them for any purpose, including commercially, without asking permission. Credit isn't legally required, but we always give it and we encourage you to as well.

CC BY (Attribution)

Images marked CC BY may be used, shared and adapted for any purpose, provided you credit the creator, link to the licence and indicate whether changes were made. Our download sizes are resized and cropped versions of the original; the credit line on each page already notes this. Copy it with the "Copy credit" button.

CC BY-SA (Attribution-ShareAlike)

If we publish an image under CC BY-SA, the same attribution rules apply, and any adapted version you share must use the same licence.

Original and permission-based images

Images marked Original or With permission are published by Wallspapers or with the creator's written agreement. They are free to use as personal wallpapers only. Contact the creator listed for any other use.

Things a licence doesn't cover

A copyright licence doesn't grant trademark rights, or the privacy and publicity rights of anyone shown. NASA material may not be used to imply NASA endorsement, and NASA insignia have separate restrictions. Where a source publishes extra conditions, we follow them and link to them.

How we verify licences

Licences are read from each source's official API at the moment of import and stored with the image. We reject anything with non-commercial, no-derivatives, unknown or restricted terms. If you find an error, please tell us. We'll investigate and correct or remove the image promptly.
