Green Turtle Feeding in Sunlit Shallows
2048 × 1455 px Desktop Added
A sea turtle glides diagonally through clear, pale turquoise water, its body angled toward the right of the frame. The shell is a mottled mix of reddish brown, amber and darker patches, and the skin around the neck and front flipper shows a warm, speckled orange-brown. The head is in profile, with an alert dark eye and neat dark-edged scales. In its mouth is a pinkish, soft-looking morsel, which suggests the turtle is feeding. Rippling light patterns wash across the sandy seabed below, and the water deepens to blue along the edges, giving the scene a calm, bright feel.
Green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) live in tropical and subtropical seas around the world. Adults are mostly grazers on seagrass and algae, though juveniles eat a wider range of food, including jellyfish and other small animals. They surface to breathe, can rest underwater for long periods, and females return to sandy beaches to nest. The name comes from the greenish fat beneath the shell, not the shell's colour. The landscape format and open space on the left suit widescreen desktop monitors well, and icons will sit comfortably over the water without covering the turtle.
